Meet the Family
Hi, we are the Arndt family. We didn’t grow up farming, and in fact, didn’t grow up in America at all. But childhoods spent abroad have circled us back to raising our kids a stone’s throw from where our parents and grandparents settled generations ago. We feel a special connection to a place that is part of our distant past, and are drawn to the former ways of life, like raising food for our family. While we won’t ever be self-sustaining (nor is it our goal), we want to share some of the joy and nourishment from raising food on our land. We know most people care about where their food comes from. And we know most people can’t necessarily buy a farmhouse in the country and start raising animals. This is our small way to share with our friends and family (and maybe new friends as well) what feels like a gift to our family.
Meet the Flock
We love our chickens! Raising chicks to hens has been the most rewarding and amazing journey! Our kids have learned so much about life and living. We have learned how to steward these amazing animals God made—we are convinced he always knew people and chickens would get along beautifully! We have about 50 chickens that free range all day and are housed safely at night in their cozy coop that Ben built for them this Spring. Visit our Instagram to see coop building progress and fun videos of our ladies. We have Ameraucanas, Barred Rocks, White Rocks, Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, and a couple special breeds the kids picked out. Our Head Rooster is ‘Blue’ the Blue Jersey Giant. He is both the best protector of his flock and such a sweet guy to his people. It is such a blessing to have a Good Rooster. Our rooster-in-training is called ‘Cowboy,’ a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. So far he is doing an amazing job keeping our ladies safe!
